“THAT’s why drive thousand horsepower GTRs!”

By Zack Klapman

When it comes to speed and horsepower we are living in an age of delusion. Aaron Robinson recently said the new Pagani Huayra wasn’t “really” fast because it “only” has 700HP. The same way a comic is only as good as their last joke, a car is only as fast as the last fastest car. So if your car is at all slower than a Veyron Super Sports, you’re a ham-fisted vagina, bringbackChrisHarrisFTW, and all that. Too bad all the people saying this have no clue what they’re talking about.

1,000 horsepower is A LOT. First of all, a thousand of anything is a lot. 1,000 pennies might not be a lot of money, but if I threw a bag of 1,000 pennies at, say, an annoying YouTube commenter, it would knock him straight through the walls of his parents’ house. And while that same douchebag could crawl back to his chair and type, “Tuning company X filled a bag with 1,300 pennies.” until that company throws that bag of pennies at you personally, you have no right to comment on it.

This anecdote is demonstrated on this week’s episode of /TUNED, where Matt Farah drives a Switzer-built GTR (Their “Ultimate Street Edition”) that makes about 1,000 horsepower to the wheels. And when he launches this car, he makes the face above. Is that the face of someone grumbling about how other companies have made more power? Or eagerly waiting to tweet, “This car ain’t sh3t compared to UGR’s new recently-grenaded turbo-powered space shuttle.”? No. That’s the face of what 1,000WHP really feels like. As someone who rode shotgun for several launches, I will tell you-and pass this along via signal fire like Lord of the Rings- it is so so fast. The experience of putting that much power down is a highly-evolved violence, like firing a laser cannon. Yeah, someone might make a gun that can destroy an entire planet, but this one can still vaporize a mountain. Jump to watch.
